My New Happy Place

I discovered this adorable duo by accident while searching for music to listen to while entering the payroll data at work.

But they're so cute, I can't just listen, I have to watch! (They remind me of a cross between my groovy neighbors and my crazy nephew, Six) I especially like the dancing grandma. She is rocking it!!!

Also, got to love anyone who shares my admiration for Earth, Wind & Fire!!!

Here he comes...

Speaking of beauty pageants, did I mention that my nephew, Six, won a "beauty" pageant recently?

Of course, how could he not with his stylish 1970s disco suit, baton twirling routine (complete with whistle and band uniform) and to top it all off, this was his reply in the question-answer portion of the contest:

I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uhmmm, some people out there in our nation don't have maps and uh, I believe that our, I, education like such as, uh, South Africa, and uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should, uhhh, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, should help South Africa, it should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future, for us.”

Sound familiar?

Quasimodo's Revenge

If you happened to have been on BYU campus on Friday around noon, you would've heard some strange tunes coming from the carillon (yes, the infamous bell tower).

My nephew, Six, has been taking a carillon class this past semester (because he just has to take every weird class that's offered) and this was his big performance. We all met at the base of the tower (where his mother, Lorna, tried to take a picture of him with her tape recorder -- she gets crazier by the minute).

Those of us who didn't know better followed Six up the 105 steps up to the top (yes, we counted -- and we were very surprised that Jorge with his gimpy leg could make it up all 105!).

Six's first song was very pretty, but sounds vaguely familiar. Babs asks him the title. Six replies, "Tetris Theme A."

What? The theme music to a video game? Six is so weird. How can he possibly top that? Oh, just you wait.

Then he plays a few classical carillon tunes (for those of you who are bell tower groupies) and surprises us with a few modern favorites ("If I Were a Rich Man" from "Fiddler on the Roof" and "Moon River" from "Breakfast at Tiffany's").

Then he says, "This is for my brother, Fred."

And proceeds to play "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath.

Oh, he's going to the Standards Office for that one.

And then just to make sure he gets kicked out of the university, he finishes up with a rousing rendition of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" by Iron Butterfly.

I'm telling you, I'll never be satisfied with "Come, Come, Ye Saints" again.

W.O.W. Update

At the end of my "W.O.W. Diet" post I mentioned going off to give blood.

Just so you know, I was turned down for low iron levels.

I do not blame my new pseudo-vegetarian diet because I get turned down all the time.

I am noticing a pattern. Whenever I give blood at the Red Cross office, my iron levels are too low. Whenever I give blood ANYWHERE else, my iron levels are just fine.

Something in the air? Faulty equipment? My nephew, Six, thinks that it's because at these other places they're really using the blood for action movies. So the next time you see some splatter in a Vin Diesel movie, you know who to thank.
