W.O.W. Insight

So I was rereading Section 89 of the Doctrine & Covenants (you know, the Word of Wisdom chapter) and I came across verse 4:

"Behold, verily, thus saith the Lord unto you: In consequence of evils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of conspiring men in the last days, I have warned you, and forewarn you, by giving unto you this word of wisdom by revelation--"

I was struck by this. "Evils and designs," "conspiring men in the last days." I totally think that means all the horrible stuff they're putting in our food supply now.

Think about it. Back when this was written, all chickens were cage free, all food was organic, none of the meat had hormones pumped into it, tobacco was just tobacco (not a bunch of scary chemicals), etc. Now the FDA has okayed cloned meat for human consumption? What? Why? Does that cow over there really taste so much better than this cow over here that we have to clone that one? Now we hear so much about buying local food while it's in season.

Hmm, has this occurred to anyone else while reading this particular verse, or am I just a nut case?

Not a nut case, Lois! You are very very wise. I think people are so used to the taste of artificial preservatives and flavorings, that when they taste "real food" they don't like it. It is scary what our culture is willing to put in their mouths.

Your reference to "nut case" has led me to wonde if there's a spot for "nuts" in the W.O.W.? I like nuts.

KRICKET -- I heard someone once say that all food is medicine (was it Dr. Oz on "Oprah"? Oh, I'm scary). That really struck me. I'm so careful about what medicines I ingest, but I'll eat anything!

RABIDRUNNER -- I'm sure nuts are perfect for the W.O.W. diet. Who doesn't like nuts?

i'm upset with wheat prices, bread should be the one thing everyone could afford, now meat is cheaper that the slices of bread put between it, njy son who loves sndwiches for lunch pays $5 for a loaf of fancy puperniclke bread and !.50 for the meat inbetween... is that evil and conspiring????or is it just ethinal for our gas tanks because this war is 10 billion dollars per mont?????

PUTZ -- I so agree. Grocery prices are incredibly outrageous right now. It's crazy!!! As far as I understand it, all the farmers are growing corn for ethanol, so the wheat is now super expensive AND the corn is expensive (since it's not being grown for food anymore). And EVERYTHING has corn or wheat in it OR is fed corn or wheat!!! Arrgh!
